Whether you have already chosen to join our major or are now considering it, we encourage you to meet with one of our student affairs staff or the head faculty advisor. Please contact us so that we can help you make the most out of your education at UC Berkeley.

ADVISING STAFF

The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology Student Affairs Office is located in 111C Koshland Hall. We are trained to support students and assist you in successfully completing the MB major. Please come see us with questions concerning administration and academics, or about other available services. Students should see drop by the Student Affairs Office in order to:

  1. ask questions about major requirements
  2. declare the MB major
  3. get their Advisor Code for Tele-BEARS registration
  4. get information and course control numbers for independent research
  5. ask advice about schedule planning
  6. make changes to their class schedules
  7. consult documentation about research opportunities, scholarships and internships
  8. get info about graduate & professional schools, career opportunities
  9. find out about the MB student club
  10. request general assistance, advice, or information
  11. find out about upcoming events and programs

FACULTY ADVISORS

Faculty Advisors are MB faculty assigned to advise students about the MB major, our courses, research, and other academic issues. Students are assigned a faculty advisor when they declare the Microbial Biology major. Students should see their faculty advisors in order to: (1) receive guidance toward achieving academic and career goals; (2) ask questions about the content of MB courses; (3) request exceptions to MB major requirements and policies (obtain their signature on MB Petition for Curriculum Exception); (4) ask questions about biological research and about the field of biology in general; (5) ask for recommendations on which graduate schools to attend.
