Research Opportunities in the Specht Lab

Graduate Students

Graduate students are enrolled in the doctoral program in Plant Biology offered through the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at UC Berkeley. We are located in the College of Natural Resources, giving our department the benefit of being part of a small college within the large University.

Ongoing collaborations with the UC Botanical Garden and the University and Jepson Herbaria in combination with the department's expertise in molecular plant biology provide an ideal environment for studies focused on the origin and evolution of plant diversity.

Graduate students in the lab develop their own projects based on their interests and the strenghts of the lab. Click here to learn more about ongoing graduate student research.

Prospective applicants should contact the PMB Department for information on the application process and email me (cdspecht @ nature.berkeley.edu) for more information on joining the lab.

Undergraduate research

Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP); Sponsored Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR)

Many research opportunities await undergraduates at UC Berkeley. We are currently hosting numerous undergraduate research projects in the Specht Lab and have been host to a number of both SPUR and URAP projects in the past. Please check out the URAP and SPUR web pages for potential projects in the lab. In addition, please feel free to contact me about opportunities for independent and/or honors research pertaining to plant evolutionary biology.

URAP: Check out details on the projects at the URAP portal (click here).

SPUR: CNR students can apply for funding through SPUR (click here).
