
Carolina obtained her BS in biology from Universidad de Antioquia (Medellin, Colombia) and has come to UC Berkeley following extensive experience in tropical botany and paleobotany. Carolina participated in a 2003 OTS course in Tropical Plant Systematics and completed an undergraduate thesis involving the description of fossil palms from a coal mine in northwestern Colombia. Caro has worked wtih Scott Wing and Carlos Jaramillo at the Smithsonian Institution and STRI, and with Dr. Ricardo Callejas at the Universidad de Antioquia.
While cycads are not palms, Caro loves them just the same. Her graduate work is focusing on population genetics and the evolution of thermogenesis in the mexican genus, Dioon.
