Although not alive themselves, viruses shape life on our planet, including human life. This course will give you a feeling for viruses, their position in the biological hierarchy, their amazing versatility on the one hand, and their absolute dependence on the biology of their hosts on the other. You will learn about HIV, the plague of our time, and why it is so challenging to control. This course is highly recommended for pre-med and pre-vet students of any major, as well as anyone interested in looking at the natural link between organisms and molecular biology. Students interested in microbial biology or infectious disease should not miss this course.
