Current Employment Opportunities

Welcome to the Coates Environmental Microbiology Lab website. At Coates Lab, we believe that the best way to reverse ecological contamination is through bioremediation. Current projects explore the breakdown of pollutants such as hydrocarbons and perchlorate, the immobilization of uranium, and many others. The microbe to the left, (Dechloromonas aromatica Strain RCB), was the first organism found that oxidizes benzene anaerobically and was isolated by our lab.

Feel free to browse our Culture Collection to view our isolated organisms or check out our available Patents. Also, see links we frequent and the latest headlines and breakthroughs in newsworthy.

Watch the recent PBS NOVA special, "Mars," featuring the Coates Lab and find out how the discovery of perchlorate on Mars thrusts perchlorate-reducing microorganisms like D. aromatica RCB into the spotlight as models for life there.
