"Toward High-Efficiency Microalgal Biofuel Systems"

Special PMB Seminar – Tuesday, 03/11 – 338 Koshland Hall – 2-3 PM

Ben HankamerBen Hankamer - an Eisenhower and DORA Fellow - is the Director of the Solar Biofuels Consortium, Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland, Australia.

Microalgae are capable of efficiently converting inorganic carbon and water, with energy from sunlight, into organic biomass, composed of energy-rich compounds. Rising  interest on the application of phototrophic microorganisms as production catalysts for sunlight-based fuel and chemicals is currently evidenced by the numerous international research initiatives in this field. Hankamer will present recent advances in this field by his lab and the international Solar Biofuels Consortium.
