As a microbiologist, Dr. Karine Gibbs investigates the complex behaviors of bacteria and how they use sociality to either cause disease or create a home. Dr. Gibbs received a Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering in 2012 and credits the Fellowship with helping to propel her lab’s research and launch new discoveries.

Today, at the University of California, Berkeley, Gibbs leads a laboratory where scientists are welcome to bring their authentic selves to work.
