Help Students Directly
The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology features two highly ranked graduate programs leading to either a Ph.D. in Plant Biology or a Ph.D. in Microbiology. The top-ranked graduate program in plant biology is designed to train students in modern research areas of plant biology, using cell and molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry approaches to study light dependent gene regulation, developmental programming, and intra- and intercellular signaling pathways.
Students pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology have access to faculty from many disciplines across UC Berkeley through an integrated program of study, the Graduate Group in Microbiology, that allows each student to pursue specialized interests. Students pursuing a Ph.D. in Microbiology gain a breadth of understanding of microbiology from the molecular to the cellular levels of organization, as well as the interactions of microbes—beneficial and pathogenic—with other organisms.
Money from the PMB Graduate Student Support Fund goes directly to our students and is used to help pay for their education. Your support will help ensure that our department's student funding remains competitive so that we are able to recruit and retain the very best students into our program.
