Post Doctorates and Staff:

Karrie Weber
Karrie was instrumental in a variety of projects, leading research groups involved with studying nitrate-dependent iron and Uranium oxidation, and other biogeochemical processes including geovirology. She is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska. More about Karrie can be found here.

Kamal Gandhi
Kamal worked with Dr. Weber on geovirology and is now at the USDA.

Kennan Kellaris
Kennan worked on sequencing and annotating the genome of Dechlormonas aromatica strain RCB.

Ching Shang
Ching studied the mechanism of anaerobic benzene degradation in the presence of perchlorate in bacterial strain RCB. She worked on the identification of this biochemical pathway and the verification of the pathway by genetic analysis. Ching is currently a post doctorate at Stanford.

Juan Fernando Villaromero
Juan volunteered in the lab prior to joining PMB as a graduate student and examined hydrocarbon degradation using RCB and other cultures.

Stephen Smith
Stephen extended the effectiveness of the perchlorate reductase colorometric assay and worked on further characterization of the PcrA enzyme.

Traci Knox
Traci worked on "Team TPSY" with Karrie Weber doing nitrate-dependent Uranium oxidation studies and identifying proteins specifically expressed during the metabolism.

Romy Chakraborty, PhD in microbiology (2005)
Thesis title: Anaerobic monoaromatic hydrocarbon degradation by a novel organism, Dechloromonas aromatica strain RCB.

Caroline worked with Dr. Weber on nitrate-dependent Uranium oxidation.

Justin Ishida
Justin worked wih Yvonne Sun on the genetic regulation of microbial perchlorate reduction in RCB.

Shaunt Oungoulian
Shaunt worked with Dr. Bose on characterizing the biogeochemistry of solid-phase iron oxidation.

Adam Boisvert
Adam worked with Dr. Gandhi on geovirology.

Thuy Nguyen
Thuy worked on developing a protocol for conjugation with RCB as well as assisting the benzene oxidation studies.

Emily Chan
Emily worked on developing a highly accurate colormetric assay for perchlorate using the purified perchlorate reductase enzyme.

Nadia Ali
Nadia worked with Yvonne Sun on chemotaxis of perchlorate-reducing microorganisms.
